Terms of Service

1. Who we are

TutorNetwork is the trading name of Tutor Network Limited, a company registered in England and Wales with company number 16713011. Our registered office is Celtic House, 11-12 Neptune Court, Vanguard Way, Cardiff CF24 5PJ. You can reach us at contact@tutornetwork.co.uk. We are registered with the Information Commission under number ZB991621. You can check both numbers on the public registers, at Companies House and on the data protection register, and there is more about who runs TutorNetwork on our About page.

In these terms, "we" and "us" mean Tutor Network Limited. "Tutoring partner", or "partner", means the independent tutoring company we match you with. Each one is a separate business with its own tutors, its own terms and its own privacy notice, and is always on our Named Partner List. On our landing page we also call them teams. "Partner" is our everyday word. It does not mean a legal partnership: neither of us can make promises or agreements on the other's behalf.

2. What we do

You fill in one short form: the level, the subjects, anything else that matters, and how to reach you. Then:

1. A person reads your enquiry.
2. We match it with one tutoring partner from our Named Partner List.
3. We email you to say who they are and what happens next.
4. The partner gets in touch by WhatsApp, text or email, with tutors chosen around your child's brief. If they miss you the first time, they will try again.
5. You chat with tutors, you can have a free introductory meeting, and you decide. Nothing starts until you say so.

If we cannot make a match, we email you to say so. We may also email or phone you ourselves, but only ever about your enquiry.

The service is for adults: parents and guardians, or students aged 18 or over. Please do not give us a child's own contact details.

3. What you are agreeing to

When you tick the box and press Send, you make an agreement with Tutor Network Limited for one thing: the match. You ask us to read your enquiry, match it with one tutoring partner from our Named Partner List, and pass your enquiry and contact details to that partner so it can reply to you. That is all the tick box means.

You are not agreeing to take lessons, to pay anyone anything, or to stay for any length of time. If lessons go ahead, that is a separate agreement, made through the tutoring partner and on its terms. We are not a party to it.

We ask two things of you: that what you tell us is true, and that the contact details are your own. We do not match enquiries that are plainly not genuine.

How the form works

It has four steps, and you can go back and change any answer before you send it. None of your answers reach us until you press Send. When you do, you see a confirmation page and we email you a receipt. We keep a record of your enquiry, the date, and the version of the Named Partner List you were shown. This agreement is in English. We do not file a separate copy of these terms for each family, so please print or save this page if you would like one.

Changing your mind

You can tell us to stop at any time, by replying to any email from us or writing to contact@tutornetwork.co.uk. If we have not yet made your match, we will not. If we have, we tell the partner to stop contacting you.

4. Who does what

We do not employ tutors and we do not teach. A partner may employ its tutors or work with self-employed tutors, so your agreement for the lessons may be with the partner or with the tutor it introduces. Either way it is arranged through the partner, not through us.

5. Who vets the tutors

Every tutor who teaches a child at a partner on our list holds an Enhanced DBS check that includes the Children's Barred List. We only list a tutoring partner that requires this of every tutor working with children.

An Enhanced DBS check is the most thorough criminal record check there is in England and Wales. The Children's Barred List is the official list of people banned by law from working with children.

The tutoring partner checks its tutors. We check the tutoring partner. It carries out the DBS checks, alongside its other checks such as identity, right to work and references, because the tutors are theirs. To be on our list, a tutoring partner must also publish a safeguarding policy, be a registered UK company with a record we have checked, have a strong record of independent reviews, and be run by people we know. We check each of these ourselves. That is what we mean by our vetted network.

6. What it costs and how we are paid

Getting matched is free for families, always. We never charge tutors anything, and we do not handle lesson money.

You pay for lessons directly, at the tutor's usual rate, agreed with you before anything starts. Coming through us does not change the price you pay.

We only list tutoring partners that work pay as you go. You pay for lessons as you take them, with no sign-up fee, no upfront package and no minimum term, and you can stop whenever you like. Tutors usually ask for notice, often 24 hours, to cancel a booked lesson without charge.

If lessons go ahead, the tutoring partner pays us a referral fee, sometimes called a commission, for the lessons you take. That is the only way we are paid. We earn nothing for the match itself, only when it leads to lessons.

7. Your details

Your enquiry goes to the one tutoring partner we match you with, and to no one else. We do not sell details, we do not share them with advertisers, and we have no mailing list. Our Privacy Notice sets out exactly what we collect, who handles it for us, how long we keep it, and your rights.

8. If something goes wrong

Our part

We promise to do our part with reasonable care and skill: reading your enquiry, making the match, and looking after your details. If we break these terms or fail to take reasonable care, we are responsible for any loss you suffer that was a foreseeable result. We are not responsible for business losses, because this service is for families. None of this affects the rights the law gives you as a consumer.

The lessons

The lessons are not our service. They are the responsibility of the tutoring partner and its tutors, under the agreement you make through the partner. If something goes wrong there, tell us. We will take it up with the partner and report back to you.

Complaints

Use the form on our Complaints page, email contact@tutornetwork.co.uk, or write to our registered office. A person replies within 5 working days. We aim to give you our answer within 14 days, and if it will take longer we tell you why and when. We do not belong to an alternative dispute resolution scheme, so if you are unhappy with our final answer, the courts remain open to you.

Law and courts

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. You can bring a claim in the courts of the part of the UK where you live.

9. Changes to these terms

The terms that apply to your enquiry are the ones on this page on the day you sent it. When we change them, we change the date at the top. A change never applies to an enquiry you have already sent.
